Providence beats Jeffersonville 5 – 0 in the opening round of the Jeffersonville Sectional

Providence Girls Tennis Team who had just last week defeated Jeffersonville 3 – 2, won the opening round of the Jeffersonville sectional 5 – 0 over the Red Devils.

Providence Junior Stephanie Smith defeated Katherine Clark 0-6, 6-0, 6-0. Stephanie dropped the first set quickly at 0 – 6, but stormed back to win the second set just as quickly 6-0 and after the break for splitting sets continued with her effort to win the final set 6-0.

Providence Senior Kady Bandy defeated Michelle Roberts in straight sets in the longest match of the day. Bandy had lost a three set match to Roberts the previous week but won in the sectional 6-3, 7-5.

Providence Freshman Megan Jakoby was pushed to three sets, after dropping the first set 3-6, she won a tough second set 6-3 before a dominating performance in the third set at 6-1.

Providence doubles team continued to have outstanding seasons. The number one doubles team of Emily DiNoto and Courtney Murphy, played another solid match winning 6-2, 6-1. The number two doubles team of Hanna Gish and Hillary Ernstberger won 6-0, 6-4.

Coach DiNoto commented that he was very pleased with the efforts put out by all his players. Our double teams continue to play very well and our singles player played very tough hard matches and won points in games that were needed to secure the victory for us. Stephanie just had an outstanding second and third set at number one singles. Next up for the Lady Pioneer will be New Washington at 4:30 PM at Jeffersonville High School.

Charlestown and Clarksville will play their first match at 4:30 at Jeffersonville.
