Schedule Finalized

The schedule now posted on the web page has been finalized for the spring of 2009. The only changes that will occur will be in the case of weather or changes requested by other schools. Note the schedule has two tournaments on Saturdays that are varsity only (7 players and alternates). There is also a Saturday three way match at our home courts. There are two JV only matches (most dual matches will include JV matches) and the first match has been pushed back because of spring break and practice rules.

Schedule Changes

Please note that the tournament scheduled for Clarksville on April 11 will be held at New Albany with New Albany as host.

The tournament listed for Bedford we will not compete in but will compete in a tournament at Austin on the 18^th.

We expect one more change to the schedule and once that is made we will post a new schedule.

Team Goals

The returning lettermen adopted the following goals for the 2009 season.

• Be role models for others

IHSAA Tennis Coaches Rules

I would recommend that everyone look over the official rules. The rules are published in Adobe Reader format (pdf).

Physicals

All girls playing tennis are required to have a physical on the approved IHSAA form. If you had a physical for another sport during the current school year you will not need to get another physical. You may not start practicing with the team (first day March 16) until the physical is in the athletic director's office.

Parent Meeting

A meeting of all Providence Girl Tennis parents will occur on Sunday, March 1^st at 3 PM. At least one parent and the student athlete should attend the meeting. The meeting will occur at the home of Coach Vince at 2910 Slone Dr. in Jeffersonville.

At the meeting we will discuss team rules, physicals, uniform and Goals for the team. The meeting will be about 1 hr to 1 hr and 30 minutes.

First Official Day of Practice March 16th

March 16th will be the first day of practice for the 2009 season for the Girls Tennis Team. Practices will take place at Community Park in New Albany. Girls must have a physical into the AD office prior to the first practice, conditioning practices will begin in mid Feb. at the school.

All girls must have 10 practices (not including conditioning) to compete in a match. Currently the first match is scheduled for March 31st (only 13 practice days, including Saturdays), but maybe moved. A complete schedule will be posted shortly. The schedule includes two tournaments and 14 matches (including a 3 way at Community Park). Make sure to make arrangements for the younger girls who do not drive to get to the courts. Plan on Saturday practice unless announced other wise.

Practices will start at 3:30PM and end at 5:45 PM. Hitting will begin at 3:45 PM. All equipment will be the responsibility of the ladies and the managers to bring to the court from the shed, including balls and ball machines. We will have two ball machines to use this year.

There will be an organizational meeting of the return letter winners at Coach Vince's home on Sunday, Feb. 15th to discuss uniforms and goals for the team. There will be a general meeting the following week right after school.

Welcome

The purpose of this blog will be to provide information about the boys and girls tennis teams at Our Lady of Providence High School in Clarksville, IN. The head coach of the boys team is Scott Gurgol and the head coach of the girls team is Vince DiNoto. They each serve as the assistant coach for the other team.

Providence girls season will begin in late March of 2009 and the boys in August of 2009.

Results of matches and highlights of different players will be posted on this site.
