The Providence Girls Tennis Team held their annual awards banquet on July 13th at the home of Hanna Gish. Most of the players and parents were able to attend the evening which included dinner and an outdoor awards program. The parents were thanked for all the efforts they gave to the team this year to help and make the season a success.
The successful season included winning the New Albany Invitational (winning two championships), Austin Invitational (winning four of five championships)as well as the Jeffersonville Sectional. The sectional championship is the 5th in a row for the team which included losing only one match in route to the title. The team will be shooting to hang a new sectional banner next year (the sectional win completed the current banner).The team fell in the regional to New Albany in a very close loss. Individual Doubles team of Courtney Murphy and Emily DiNoto won the sectional and loss a tough match at the regional level in Carmel to Booneville. This was the first time in at least five years that an individual team advanced to regional level for Providence.
Varsity Letters were awarded to:
Seniors: Emily DiNoto and Kady Bandy (co-Captains)
Juniors: Stephanie Smith, Hanna Gish, Courtney Murphy and Sammie Riggs
Sophomore: Hillary Ernstberger
Freshman: Megan Jakoby
Junior Varsity Letters and numerals were awarded to:
Juniors: Natalie Sisson and Jessica Stenger
Sophomores: Kara Garcia, Priya Patel and Lena Waiz
Freshmen: Kristin Simms, Rebecca Garner, Sarah Federspiel, and Maggie Bremer
Additional Awards were made to:
Academic All-State Honorable Mention: Emily DiNoto
All District and Honorable Mention All State Doubles: Courtney Murphy and Emily DiNoto
The following individuals received team awards:
Newcomer of the Year: Hillary Ernstberger
Most Improved: Kady Bandy
Co-MVP: Courtney Murphy and Emily DiNoto
Tri-Captains were named for the 2010 team and they are seniors Courtney Murphy, Stephanie Smith and Hanna Gish.
